Troup County Court House Troup County was formed from Creek land cessions of January 24, 1826 and March 31, 1826. The 1827 land lottery distributed lands in Georgia to persons residing all over the state. Be sure and research the surrounding counties of Muscogee and Talbot. The county seat is LaGrange, Georgia. Generally speaking, those families found in the border counties to Alabama eventually found homes in Alabama. That is the next place to search after discoving an ancestor in Troup, Muscogee and Talbot counties.

The Movement West from Eastern Georgia
By Jeannette Holland Austin
Jeannette Holland Austin
Thomas Leverett enlisted in the Revolutionary War in Wilkes County where his family resided, serving until the latter part of 1779. Leverett participated in skirmishes and helped to guard the neighborhood and frontiers against Indian Tories and the British troops. During 1780 he volunteered at the court house in Columbia County and served under the command of Captain John Clark as well as Colonel Elijah Clarke. He served as a private in the Infantry and Cavalry of the Georgia Militia for eighteen months. In June of 1781 he was at the siege of Augusta, and discharged afterwards. Next, he enlisted for three years in the Georgia Continental Line. As many pension applications contain a record of the bible belonging to the soldier, that of Thomas Leverett is included. Also, the family tree is available to members of Georgia Pioneers
