Florida's Treasures of History and Genealogy

Hundreds of 18th century ale and wine bottles were found at this location in historic old St. Augustine, Florida.  A diverse population settled itself in a little village started by Spain beginning in the 1500s.  During the 1600s, French Hugenots found refuge here and a burial cemetery is located near the old Spanish fort, formerly called "the castle".  After the armada left the settlement about 1745, Englishmen found their way south.  After the Revolutionary War a list of traitors (loyalists) circulated throughout Georgia and before General Wayne reclaimed Savannah, they scampered into Florida. This charming old town reveals history everywhere that you step and is certainly worth a visit.  It is certainly worth a search through some of the oldest cemeteries in North America  to see what you find!  This is another great source to search for those elusive ancestors!  In the meantime, here is another source of "original data".   Have you seen all of the Georgia estates, wills, marriages, genealogies, bible records, etc. on Georgia Pioneers
