The Family Historian

It is thrilling to anticipate how much genealogists could benefit from the new technology of the future. One click and appears out of nowhere names, photographs, documents and a panoramic view of the old home place. Somewhere there is one over-sized ancestral chart which connects us all to father Adam and mother Eve.  But would we be happy without the struggle, you know, the fun of being a detective of the past?  The work, because it is so time-consuming and expensive, is described by so many as a labor of love.  Not until you add up the years, the travel expenses and the time,  do you fully understand how well these words fit your job description. Most families seem to have a family historian. Someone who is tucked away somewhere inside a court house digging through papers.  You know that his great aunt or grandmother has the statistics in her head and stacks of work.  I mean, is there an end? Does one ever finish the work?
