How Good is your Memory?

Do you remember when John Kennedy was assassinated? If this is part of your era, you probably do because you associate it with something. But imagine trying to pry information about your relatives from family members.  It is always great to interview old family members, however, you are not getting factual information, exact dates, etc.  Instead, what you will have when you leave that home is a "guideline" or "some ideas where to search."  Do not expect to go to the court house and ask for a specific deed made in the year of 1905, because you won't find it.  But it could be 30 or 40 years before or afterwards.  People tend to confuse the timelines. It is your duty to use exact dates such as burial information, and figure it out from there. I had some relatives in northwest Georgia who all insisted that our common great-grandfather was illegitimate. They did have the illegitimate part correct, however, the ancestor was born about 1430!  The reason that designation got passed down through the family for hundreds of years is that this name encompassed royalty and illegitimate sons did not inherit but were well known and remembered.  "Our name is Warrene, but we are not from the Warrene knighted by the king." You see. Class distinction was a reality, a factor to considering while tracing.  Well, they were only off 600 years!
