How to find information about your Revolutionary War Soldier

In an earlier article, I suggested that we relate the stories of our ancestors to our children, yes, especially the grown children!  So where can you get information?  Read the Revolutionary War Pensions at the National Archives (or local Federal Record Centers) and in some regional libraries.  After the war, when the soldier made application for a pension, he gave details of battles, persons, and so on.  Even if you are not looking for anyone in particular, the reading is so enlightening that it is worth the study.  This is the best way of discovering real historical accounts of battles, wars, etc.  The accounts are "first hand", not something which a reporter later narrated to suit a political agenda.  The genealogist goes to the horses' mouth for information.  The main thing is to locate the pension of your ancestor, make copies of it, frame it, and so on.
