Finding Georgia Deaths before 1919

If you expect to find a death record in Georgia before 1919, you must starting scanning the old newspapers where your ancestors resided.  News can be discovered in local news, small towns, under obituaries, front pages, middle pages and want ads. Yes, they are scattered throughout.  Comments were made about illnesses, disasters, violence and old-age deaths.  Most regional libraries have some collections of old Georgia newspapers and this is where to begin. Then, you can order microfilm reels from the University of Georgia via inter-library loan to your local library.  The process is slow, the ink bled through, and photocopies are not good.  One month of newspapers could equal as many as 6 reels of microfilm. Patience is indicated, but it is worth it.
